In conclusion, thank you!

Hello all,

I want to give you one last check in from the trip before I say adios.

We’ve been home for three days now. Those three days have been filled with adjustments to humidity, flushing toilet paper, rain, and beds that are long enough.

But it has also been filled with other types of adjustments: it has been weird to go to sleep each night without a 30 minute singing service in a dark gym to calm your spirit. It has been odd to not see smiles on tiny faces meeting us throughout the day. I’ve gotten strange looks as I have accidently spoken Spanish to the people around me.

Although it feels good to be home and to be with family again, a part of us remains in a white-washed orphanage in Ensenada.

But that is how it should be. When you go and spend any amount of time pouring your heart and soul into other people and another place, there will always be a part of you that stays there.

I want to take this opportunity to say thank you where it is due.

First, thank you to everyone who helped make this trip a possibility. To the parents, family, and friends who gave money and support to help us go and serve: thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you for trusting your high school children to us. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to get to grow together with them. You all have some very special children, and I am thankful for the time and conversations I had with them over the week.

Thank you to Granny White for your constant support as well. It was wonderful to have such a loving church that actively gave and prayed for our trip from its earliest moments of planning. Thank you all!

Thank you to Tom, Pilar, Arturo, Patti, and Ricardo, and so many other people in the City of Children who made our trip possible. Thank you for your service toward the kingdom of God as you work on mission every single day. Our trip could not have been possible without the hard work and time you all put in, and we are eternally grateful for you all.

Finally, we want to thank God for blessing us before during and after the trip. It is such a blessing to spend time with our brothers and sisters in Christ all the way in another country, and we are thankful to God for the opportunity to do that.

As is true with most mission trips, we went to serve the people of Ensenada, but they served us in ways we could have never anticipated. They taught us lessons of humility, joy, and perspective that I have no doubt will last us a life time.

The goodbyes we said Thursday night to the kids were difficult for everyone. The beautiful piece of the process is knowing that they were less of a ‘goodbye’ and more of a ‘see you later’. Whether it be on this earth or not, we can all take comfort from the fact that we will indeed all see one another again, and that is one family reunion I cannot wait to be a part of.

Thank you all for keeping up with our journey in Mexico!

Bendiciones and God Bless
